Internal Medicine Residency Training

Thank you for your interest in the residency program in Internal Medicine at New Hanover Regional Medical Center!

An affiliate teaching site of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, our enthusiastic faculty provides a strong academic foundation for resident training in a supportive learning environment. Our residents' experiences are supplemented by a strong community base of subspecialty physicians through elective experiences, hospital-based clinics, consultations, and research mentorship.

As an academic training site, there are numerous opportunities for our residents to develop their aptitude at teaching by working with Medical students from UNC, the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU) and the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine (PCSOM).

At NHRMC, there are ample opportunities for our residents to participate in research experiences. In addition to support and mentorship from our key faculty members, NHRMC has a dedicated research department to assist our residents with their research project needs. Many residents have gone on to present posters and give talks at regional, national, and even international meetings.

The Internal Medicine Residency Program based at NHRMC offers a broad and thorough exposure to general medicine, while retaining the flexibility to meet the needs and the professional goals of each individual resident. A dedicated and accessible faculty group, coupled with a supportive learning environment, makes NHRMC a wonderful place to pursue residency training.
